As Leica enters its third digital M decade, it's worth looking back at the camera that saved the company - the Leica M8. Richard took his then-new M8 to Japan in 2008 and here recounts some of his adventures.
Leica’s first digital rangefinder, the M8, had a mixed reception. But it was the first step towards the full-frame M range which has proven so popular among more traditional photographers. Richard took his M8 to Japan over ten years ago and captured the flavour of a very different culture.
The L-Mount Alliance has given the camera indusry something new. It's a cross-manufacturer standard similar in scope to the micro four-thirds co-operative ten years ago and it looks as though it is succeeding. Sigma in particular is making a lot of headway, expecially with its high-quality Art lenses and the new and unusual fp camera which is proving a best seller in Japan.
