Thank you for your statement. The more I use the Q2 and Q2M the more I think this solution of EVF is excellent. Being able to change lenses would be ideal. Im just mesmerized to see the little open mindedness concerning the possibility of evolution.

Thank you. I have owned Ms. 1 to 11 this is a statement of age , acquiring mostly used, roughly every 4 ish years an M Leica of some sort. I have always loved Ms. By now my aged eyes eyes are not as rangefinder accurate as once were. I like shooting lenses wide open, 1.4 75mm and the 0.95 when ever I can hire a body builder to carry it. I thought hallelujah the SL2s will solve this issue, got it , sold it waaaaay to HEAVY, hadn’t realised it was part of the training regime for carrying an 0.95. The major plus of the SL is the quality of its EVF viewfinder, 5.76 megapixels v M11’s EVF 3.68 . I will always use my Ms , but I want an EVF M with a built high res viewfinder , it should be cheaper and lighter . Others think this traduces the Messsucher tradition .When Oscar Barnack added the rangefinder many said this should be verboten as it breaks the essential photographic tradition of tripod and tape measure. Me; I just want to take pictures using my Leica lenses on a light M camera that I can get in focus,……… count me in I will buy an EVF M

This is another nice article with an excellent collection of images.

I have done what youn have asked for in this article. I have made a few comparison images using M lenses on both my SL2 and S5. In both cases M lenses used on the L-mount body have a defined envelope of good performance. For the S5, with close subjects, lenses 50mm and longer, and stopped down will perform very nicely. As subject gets farther away, and you open the aperture, we get some smearing around the edges of the frame. With the SL2 we see the same sort of performance with a 35mm lens, and the smearing is not quite as pronounced as the S5. Which to me says the thinner cover glass reduces the smearing effect on the SL2 to a greater degree than the cover glass used on the S5. Though a key point to recognize is, both cameras have smearing with M lenses, and stopping down helps reduce it.

I think you’re perfectly right. The Q series is a huge success. It’s a wonderful camera. Here we’re talking about something like a Q that can use M lenses.

I bet the same diehard fans made identical arguments and fuss when Leica made the first digital M camera! Just make an EVF version – if people want true optical/analogue, they would surely be better off with a film body. I think what many people fail to understand is you dont have to have a rangefinder OR an EVF. Leica ‘just’ need to engineer the 21st century version of a rangefinder mechanism via EVF. The delay is probably they’re too under-resourced in R&D and software/firmware compared to the big players. After all they have plenty of their team tied up fixing bugs for years on the M11. And the rest are busy making ridiculously expensive ‘unobtanium’ anniversary models to try and get a few more bucks from the Leica legacy before it becomes apparent that they aren’t actually at the forefront of cameras anymore. But they could be if they did something radical like a brilliant take on an EVF rangefinder.

But in any case, Leica will have to make at least the first model with the option of having the old optical rangefinder.

You can easily get tack sharp vibrant results from the smaller sensor, and of course the form factor is so much smaller. They need to bring it back.

Have you tried with an adapter? Functionally, it’s the same isn’t it? The body doesn’t always match so well (a summicron 35 looks hilarious an SL2, for example)… But the functionality is pretty spot on. Insofar as it’s M glass + EVF.

Some people swear by M glass on Fuji bodies. Does look pretty fun!

Yes, I agree. Personally I enjoy very much the q2 monochrom. This is a fantastic tool. I just dream of being able to use my m lenses on a Leica evf camera but without an adapter. For me it would be the best of both worlds.

I didn’t mention “best.”

I’m no youngster. The M is tough for my old eyes, especially through my coke bottle thick glasses. My point is: OVF is the M. To go EVF is to give away the heart of the system.

I also trust Leica to make the right choice. In fact, they have. They created the Q and the SL.

How about evolution. I’m old enough to know that an awful lot of things that I considered the best in the end don’t exist anymore. I trust Leica for making the right choice at the right moment.
